<p><strong>Scottsdale, Ariz.</strong> – In conjunction with the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Annual Meeting, the NACDS Foundation today announced $214,000 in scholarships and grants through its 2014 Pharmacy Partners Program. </p>
<p>This year’s program awardees were selected from 35 high-quality applications from deans of colleges and schools of pharmacy across the country. Grants were awarded to six applicants in the amount of $20,000 each. </p>
<p>The six winners for the 2014 NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Program are:</p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><strong>Idaho State University College of Pharmacy </strong>to develop a pharmacy residency<strong> </strong>program focusing on rural pharmacy care services.</p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><strong style="text-indent: 0in;">Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy</strong><span style="text-indent: 0in;"> to develop a prototype </span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">model to facilitate improved patient care and </span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">enhance public health outcomes.</span></p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><strong style="text-indent: 0in;">The University Of Rhode Island College Of Pharmacy</strong><span style="text-indent: 0in;"> to research pharmacist-</span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">led management for high-risk patients following hospital discharge.</span></p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><strong style="text-indent: 0in;">University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy</strong><span style="text-indent: 0in;"> to develop a pharmacy</span><strong style="text-indent: 0in;"> </strong><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">services training course, focusing on completion of medication therapy </span><span style="text-indent: 0.5in;">management interventions.</span></p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><strong style="text-indent: 0in;">Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and </strong><strong style="text-indent: 0in;">Health Sciences</strong><span style="text-indent: 0in;"> to advance a shared faculty position to study feasibility and inter-professional education of MTM services and improve training exercises for student pharmacists.</span></p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;"><strong style="text-indent: -0.5in;">Western University of Health Sciences College of Pharmacy</strong><span style="text-indent: -0.5in;"> to establish a program to provide medication management and other pharmacy care services to a community with unfulfilled health care needs.</span></p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;">In addition, the NACDS Foundation will also award $2,000 in scholarships to <a href="http://www.nacds.org/pdfs/pr/2014/recipients.pdf">47 additional colleges and schools of pharmacy</a>. </p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;">The 2014 NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Program was supported by a group of 20 benefactors, comprised of NACDS Chain Members and Associate Members. </p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;">The NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Program is designed to fund prospective projects that hold promise to meaningfully improve patient care. Colleges and schools of pharmacy were asked to submit applications for projects that may include community pharmacy residencies or shared faculty positions, community-based research projects and patient-centered coursework or other innovative curriculum. </p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;">“These scholarships and grants would not be possible without the generous support of our community pharmacy and pharmaceutical industry benefactors,” said NACDS Foundation President Kathleen Jaeger. “We appreciate their commitment to the Foundation’s Pharmacy Partners Program in helping to advance patient care and pharmacy education by supporting the next generation of leaders in community pharmacy.”</p>
<p style="margin-left: 0in; text-indent: 0in;">The NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Program began in 1997, and since that time has provided more nearly $3.5 million in scholarships for pharmacy students thanks to the generous support of the program’s benefactors. </p>
