Palm Beach</strong><strong>, Fla.</strong><strong> &ndash; </strong>The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) Foundation announced $230,000 in scholarships through its 2013 Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program.&nbsp; The NACDS Foundation made the announcement today at an event held in conjunction with the NACDS Annual Meeting.<br />

The NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program provided awards ranging from $10,000 to $40,000 to each pharmacy school&rsquo;s scholarship fund to assist high-caliber pharmacy students working to achieve their professional Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.<br />
<br />
This year&rsquo;s Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program awardees were selected from 48 applicant pharmacy schools and colleges nationwide.&nbsp; Scholarships were awarded to 12 accredited pharmacy schools and colleges, based on the awardees&rsquo; strength in criteria including new and innovative community-based programs; percentage of graduates seeking community pharmacy positions; recent or ongoing community practice research initiatives; number of community pharmacy residencies and shared faculty positions; and patient-centered coursework such as medication therapy management certification.<br />

The 2013 NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program was supported by a group of 27 benefactors, comprised of NACDS Chain Members and Associate Members.<br />

The 12 scholarships were awarded as follows:</p>

<li><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">$30,000 Lilly USA, LLC Scholarship awarded to University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy</span></li>
<li><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">$30,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship awarded to University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy</span></li>
<li><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">$20,000 Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Scholarship awarded to&nbsp;University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences</span></li>
<li><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">$20,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship awarded to Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences University School of Pharmacy &ndash; Boston</span></li>
<li><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">$20,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship awarded to University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy</span></li>

<li><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">$10,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship awarded to West Virginia University School of Pharmacy</span></li>
<li><span style="text-indent: -0.25in;">$10,000 NACDS Foundation Scholarship awarded to Western New England University College of Pharmacy.</span></li>
</ul>
<p>This year, the Foundation&rsquo;s scholarship program was restructured to reflect a merit-based approach in its awards.&nbsp; This new process is designed to recognize schools and colleges of pharmacy that emphasize advancing and improving patient care through community pharmacy and have implemented innovative programs to prepare students for these new roles.<br />

Since the inception of the NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program in 1997, the Foundation has provided more than $3.2 million in scholarships for pharmacy students thanks to the support of <a href="http://www.nacdsfoundation.org/Portals/4/pdfs/2013/ppsp_sponsors.pdf">Program Benefactors</a>.<br />
